Experiential, dried and immersive - Design by Nature approaches floristry from an unexpected angle. Combining a background in fine art, sculpture and design, founder Emily Ayres takes cues from the natural world and modern art, working with flowers and botanicals as a tool for composition.
At Design by Nature, our mission is to restore the true value to botanicals by redefining the role of dried flowers in interior design. Too often, florals are treated as a final flourish, something added at the very end of a project, once everything else is in place. But through years of collaborating closely with interior designers, we’ve discovered something essential, dried flowers aren’t finishing touches. They are design elements in their own right.
Like a piece of furniture or a sculptural object, dried flowers deserve to be part of the conversation from the very beginning. They enrich a space not just momentarily, but for months or years, becoming part of its architecture.
There is also a deeper human element at play. Within our homes, we naturally crave something botanical, a reminder of the natural world. Dried botanicals reflect the true colours of nature. Most of the natural world is soft, muted, earthy, and punctuated with gentle pops of colour. Dried flowers embody this authentic spectrum.
Their sculptural stems, tonal subtlety, and textural richness allow them to blend effortlessly with interiors while still fulfilling our innate desire to be connected to nature. They feel harmonious rather than intrusive; intentional rather than decorative.
